Handy Chaps were founded by Dave Mittig, a master carpenter and construction veteran with over 45 years of hands-on expertise. His career wasn't spent behind a desk—it was built on major projects, from custom home remodels to constructing critical infrastructure like the Interstate 10 twin span bridge reconstruction after Hurricane Katrina and the massive Gulf International Waterway West Closure Complex.

Throughout his decades as a professional, Dave noticed a consistent habit among every craftsman: wiping tools, caulk, and paint on the upper thigh. This habit rapidly destroyed quality work pants, forcing professionals and DIYers to choose between bulky painter's suits or constantly replacing expensive clothing.
